Top Memorial Day Activity In Lakewood

Memorial Day is a wonderful opportunity to honor the lives of those who were lost while they served in the armed forces. Lots of the freedoms many of us take for granted can be attributed to those who have risked their lives for this country. Have you made plans for this year’s Memorial Day?

Here’s a tribute worth checking out, as announced by the City of Lakewood website.

“The ceremony includes the laying of wreaths at the Veterans Memorial and remarks from Lakewood’s mayor and other dignitaries. A highlight each year is the reading the stirring poem, ‘The Boys of Del Valle Park,’ authored by Lakewood resident Dennis Lander.

Lakewood City Council Members attend along with hundreds of local residents and members of American Legion, Post 496; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post 8615; Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 19 and Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 756. A musical tribute is usually included to honor those who have served in the armed forces. In past years, the nationally recognized Lakewood High School Naval Junior ROTC has presented our nation’s flag.

Expect parking to be available along Woodruff Avenue, as well as on Arbor Road and Henrilee Street. Neighboring residents are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to the park as spaces are limited.

This event is free and is open to the public.”
