Fun Halloween Party Decorating Tips

Throwing a Halloween party this year? Awesome! Can we get an invite? We’ll even help you plan it. Here are a few fun, awesome, and simple party decorating tips that won’t break the bank.

Pumpkin punch bowl: buy the largest pumpkin you can find (most grocery stores will have tons of them). Next cut it in half and clean it out (as thoroughly as you can). Now throw your punch or a mixed drink inside and let your guests enjoy.

Glowing eyes: start saving your old toilet paper rolls–you’ll need them for your party. Once you have five or ten rolls, cut spooky looking eyes into each one. Next put a glow stick inside each one and strategically place them in the darkest areas of your living space. Your guest might be spooked seeing glowing evil eyes in your apartment.

Scary entrance: the door and entrance into your apartment is the first thing party guest will see, so be sure to set the tone with a few scary decorations. Use orange lights, googly eyes and some blood.

Attend the Lakewood Community Appreciation Event

The Lakewood Center, City Council and Sheriff’s Station will be hosting a “Community Appreciation Day” this October. The day is scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd from 11am to 2pm and will feature free food, games, and entertainment among other things. The big event, however, will be a drawing to win a four-pack of Disneyland park hopper passes along with a $500 Visa gift card!

The city wide event will also feature vendors, food booths, and other things. If you are looking to get involved in your community or meet new people, attending the event is a great idea. Here are a few more details about entering the Disneyland drawing from the City of Lakewood’s website:

“To enter in the 1:50 p.m. drawing for the Disneyland prize pack, pick up a Lakewood Center Passport on October 22 starting at 11:00 a.m. Passports will be available at the welcome tables in Center Court or at the outdoor event area near the Security & Sheriff Safety Center. To enter the drawing, get your passport stamped at each stop in the mall.”  Good luck and we hope you win the drawing!

Lakewood Living: Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

Decorating a pumpkin is fun, but it can also be messy and difficult. If you are planning to decorate this Halloween, here are a few frugal tips to turn a plain pumpkin into something fun and scary!

Use the stem: turn your pumpkin on its side and decorate around the stem. The stem will turn into an ugly nose and scary addition to your pumpkin.

Use props: grab fake eyes, ears, or teeth and put them on your pumpkin instead of carving. Props are easier and less messy.

Keep hydrated: pumpkins dry out quickly, so be sure to them them hydrated. The best way is to let them soak in a tub of water over night. Doing so will extend its shelf life.

How to Choose the Perfect Indoor Plant

Choosing an indoor plant can be tough. Particularly if you are not a plant person. However, putting some greenery into your decor will help freshen up the area and add a homey vibe into your apartment. Here is a quick look at three great plants to think about owning.

Go with air purifying plants: apartments can get stuffy, so pick a plant that has air purifying powers like the pothos plant. Your living area will feel fresh and clean.

Choose easy to care plants: life can get fast paced and busy, so pick an easy to care for plant. Try something that thrives with little water or care, just in case your forget to water it for a day or two.

Match plants with the environment: pick a plant that will thrive in your apartment’s environment to ensure a maximum survival rate. If your apartment is dark, pick a plant that thrives with little light. If you are placing your plant in a brightly lit room, pick one that thrives with the sunlight.
