How To Make a Summer Inspired Coffee Table

Summer is right around the corner, so now is the time to begin changing up your apartment’s décor to get that inviting summery feel. Remodeling your style can get expensive, so instead of buying everything, why not put your DIY skills to work and make something yourself? One of the easiest way to make a décor piece is by trying your hand at a coffee table. Here are the quick instructions:

Step 1: find an old (or new) palette lying around. You can buy these or find them online for free. People on Craigslist give them away all the time.

Step 2: buy some sandpaper (which cost a few dollars) and sand the palette down as much as possible. This will be the hardest part of the process, so take your time and sand it correctly.

Step 3: Buy a 2×4 from Home Depot (these cost $2 or $3) and measure and cut the leg size you want for your coffee table. You can look at other tables for reference.

Step 4: Secure the legs to the palette with screws and a few brackets. Again, this sounds harder than it really is. And if you do not have tools, you can probably borrow some from a friend.

Step 5: Pick a bright and bold summer color and paint.

Spring Cleaning Tips and Help

Spring is almost over and the one thing you have been avoiding is the one thing you must do before summer starts—spring clean your apartment. Getting a deep cleaning done at least once a year is a great way to keep your living area organized so you can get your deposit back at the end of your lease. Here are a few tips.

Appliances: dishwashers, ovens, and washing machines need a little bit of love over the course of the year. Most have self-cleaning options, if not, vinegar works great for cleaning various appliances in your house.

Dust in all the right places: most people dust on a daily basis, but most of us do not do “deep dusting” too often. Move the couch, tv and pretty much your entire apartment around to get a good dusty going. There can be a bit of buildup.

Pet fur: animal hair can be difficult to pick up. Try putting rubber gloves on and wet them a tiny bit, then run your hand over the pet hair area. The gloves will pick them right up.
